Annual Rise in ISA Subscriptions

Figures released by HMRC in September 2026 have revealed that in the 2024/25 tax year some 16.8 million adults subscribed to an ISA. That’s a rise of 1.8 million on the previous year. The cash value of subscriptions also rose by £32.7 billion to £135.7 billion with Cash ISAs seeing a rise of 37.5% and Stocks & Shares ISA subscriptions rising by 19.7%.

Interestingly, although more funds were ploughed into Cash ISAs than Stocks & Shares ISAs in the 2024/25 tax year, when it comes to the overall value of all ISAs as at the end of the tax year, Stocks & Shares ISAs accounted for 55.8%. Looking at the age range of those holding ISAs, perhaps unsurprisingly the greatest number of ISA holders was in the 66 and over age group. However, just 47.7% of these saved into an ISA during the year compared with 67.8% of ISA holders aged under 24.
