New Year, New Look at Finances

Do you have any financial regrets from 2018? According to a new survey by savings bank Marcus, the top regret across the country is the amount spent on takeaways (16%) with spending on alcohol and frivolous items for the home tying in second place. Perhaps unsurprisingly therefore, the survey also revealed that 71% of us are planning to take a fresh look at our finances in 2019.

As a result of that fresh look, 35% of us are planning to save more whilst others aim to pay off debts or simply to spend less. Will that newfound focus on finances lead to an improving financial position? Interestingly the survey also revealed a generational divide here with those in the 18-35 age bracket being more optimistic about their finances over the next year than those aged over 55.

Optimistic or not, it is good financial practice to review finances on a regular basis. This helps to ensure that investment plans are still aligned with current and future expectations and that any changes in personal circumstances have been accounted for.
