Care With a Smile
When choosing a care home for yourself or a loved one there are so many factors to take into account. Are the rooms to a good standard, is food freshly prepared and appetising, what activities are available, and is the level of care provided going to ensure a happy stay?
Whilst nothing beats a visit to the proposed care home, taking a look at the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection reports can help to answer some of the most commonly posed questions. Now, another care indication is to be added to reports, the way in which the care home helps residents to look after their oral hygiene. Following an earlier report the CQC is adding two mandatory questions to its inspection regime. The first looks at the training provided to all staff on oral health care whilst the second examines how oral health care is delivered as a part of an individual care plan. Subsidiary questions examine a range of issues including access to routine and emergency dental care.
