Our Finances 'Let us Down'

Which is the most stressful city in the UK in which to live and work? No prizes for guessing that a survey from totallymoney.com put London in first place. The survey looked at a range of factors from the job market and commuting times, to finances, wellbeing and demographics. London came top of the table in three of the five categories, easily earning itself top spot in the process.

By comparison Exeter is an oasis of calm, coming in at 36 on the list of 52 cities and therefore well down the stress index. With wellbeing and the daily commute totals revealing very low levels of stress at 46th and 47th places respectively the city perhaps should have done even better; only being ‘let down’ by its fifth place in the finance category.

Comprising average house prices, the cost of living index and a credit eligibility score, perhaps Exeter’s poor result in this one section reflects the attractiveness of Exeter as a centre for life, work and attending University. After all, as the survey commented, Exeter’s residents enjoy ”short commutes and good levels of employment” adding “If things do get a little stressful, there is Dartmoor National Park or the gorgeous Devon coast nearby.”
