Fund Investment Hits New Record
Figures from the Investment Association reveal that net investment into funds reached a new high in the first six months of 2017. An increase over the period in net fund investments of £18.4 billion has resulted in a total of £1.1 trillion worth of funds under management.
Breaking down the new investments by region; global, European and Japanese equity investments topped the list. However, UK equity funds experienced a net outflow with commentators speculating that Brexit uncertainty may be leading investors to be more cautious about the UK outlook as they rebalance their portfolios. This also may have led to an increase in interest in the targeted absolute return sector which in June came second only to the global bond sector and ahead of sterling strategic bonds.
Whilst the figures are of interest, best advice remains for investors to create a balanced portfolio which best meets their own requirements rather than simply following the market. Risk appetites do vary from individual to individual and some of the sectors which may be recommended for investors in their early twenties may not be ideal for those who are reaching retirement age.
