South West Tops ISA Table

When it comes to investing in ISAs, the
prime factor for consideration is that an individual’s investments have been
chosen with their own current and future situation in mind. However, from time to time it is worth taking
a glance outwards, taking the pulse of the ISA marketplace.

A report produced by HMRC in August 2016 on
the state of the ISA market makes for very interesting reading indeed; not
least because of the statistic that the percentage of adults holding ISAs in
the South West tops the national tables.
According to the report, at the end of 2013/14, around 44% of adults in
England held an ISA in one form or another, with this figure rising to 50% in
the South West. Bottom of the table was
London at 36%.

The report also summarises ISA investments
in the last tax year. Although the
number of adult ISA subscriptions was 300,000 down on the previous year, the
volume of funds invested rose by £1 billion.
Junior ISAs also did well with 740,000 accounts seeing investments
totalling £921 million. Overall, at the end of the last financial year the
market value of adult ISA investments stood at £518 billion, up 7% on the
previous year.
