Representing the Autumn Statement

Autumn has arrived. The 22nd September equinox may have slipped by almost unnoticed; but colder evenings and the rain which, at the time of writing, is beating down outside the window leaves us in no doubt that summer is over for another year.
In fact, by the time the Chancellor of the Exchequer gets on his feet on 23rd November to deliver the autumn statement, autumn will be well into its stride with winter nipping in the wings. But there’s a lot to get through between now and then and over the course of the next two months we’ll expect to see an escalation of press releases and comments as various bodies pitch for their sector to be treated favourably in the statement this time round.
What may not be so well known is that members of the public can also submit their thoughts and wishes ahead of the autumn statement. The deadline for submitting comments is the 7th October. HM Treasury do ask that the comments should be short, clear and concise but it is a chance for everyone to submit comments and suggestions on matters of policy or tax. Over the next two months we’ll be keeping an eye out on submissions which hit the press and will of course report on the autumn statement when it arrives.
