Pension Scams: Don’t be Next

Pension scams. It’s a subject which we’ve written about before and sadly it’s a subject which we will probably return to a fairly regular basis as scammers continue to find rich pickings in those who are looking to maximise their retirement savings.

This is one area where if it looks too good to be true then the warning bells should be ringing loud and clear; but it is also an area in which people can all too easily be misled by strong sales patter and glossy brochures allied to the promise of a significant return on their investments. In a bid to raise awareness the pensions regulator has released a short video highlighting the way in which it is all too easy to lose your entire pension savings pot to fraudsters.

The video is accompanied by 10 steps to help protect your pension including:

  • Be wary of cold calls and unsolicited texts or emails
  • Check the FCA’s list of known scams and steer clear of overseas investments deals
  • Check everything yourself, don’t rush into a decision and don’t fall for ‘guaranteed’ returns or professional looking websites or brochures
  • Make sure your adviser is on the Financial Conduct Authority approved register

If you’re looking for pensions advice, or if your situation has changed and you may therefore need to review your existing investment portfolio, contact Beckworth by using one of the links on our website.
