Leaving a Legacy
When we talk about leaving a legacy, the
traditional interpretation is that it will have some monetary or financial
value. So it was interesting to hear of some research carried out on behalf of
“Remember a charity in your will
week” which revealed that 28% of us value the wisdom which loved ones have
passed on more than money or keepsakes.
As part of the research the organisers of
the week asked celebrities to share their favourite sayings. For example, Sir
Alan Sugar contributed ‘don’t worry if you make mistakes - they are the best
way to learn.’ But the public were also asked to share their favourite words of
wisdom with ‘make the most of every day’ coming out top of the tree.
Remember a charity in your will week, from
the 12th to 18 September 2016, does have a serious side with
organisers hoping to boost the number of legacy donations given to charities.
Although analysis has shown that the number of charity bequests rose 10% in the
year to 2015, organisers are trying to encourage more of us to follow the
37,000 people who left charity bequests in 2015.
