Building for the Future
How do you build for the future? It’s an interesting question and, in truth, the answer depends on individual circumstances, looking at current and future expected needs and building an investment plan accordingly. Best advice would also say that those plans should be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure that they take account of changing circumstances.
Whatever your plans, it’s a fair bet that they won’t follow the same route as that adopted by one Exeter institution. Starting in February 2016, for Exeter Cathedral, building for the future means just that - one brick at a time! These are not any ordinary bricks though. In fact, those charged with preserving the building for future generations have commissioned a Lego model of the Cathedral. When complete, the three meter long model will comprise over 300,000 bricks and the team hope that each of those bricks will have attracted a donation of £1.
Overall the project is anticipated to raise over a quarter of a million pounds with further fundraising and educational opportunities available once the model has been completed. In the meantime, the cathedral team is looking to recruit volunteers to help with the day-to-day construction and maintenance of the model.
